Advanced tooth decay might cause so much damage to the interior of the tooth that it needs to be extracted. The void left by the extracted tooth can compromise your ability to chew food. As time passes, the neighboring teeth can begin to twist or even move to fill the area. This can lead to alignment issues with your bite.

One of the most effective ways to restore the structure, function and appearance of the tooth is to have our Center For Dental Rehabilitation team install a bridge. This bridge will closely mimic the appearance of the extracted tooth. It is fused to a pair of crowns that are anchored to the neighboring teeth.

Our experienced dentist, Dr. Maureen Toal, will then prepare the neighboring teeth by removing the majority of their enamel. A small amount of enamel is left to protect the healthy interior of the teeth.

At the end of this appointment, your dentist will take an impression of the teeth and will send the impression to the dental lab that will make your new bridge. Temporary crowns are then cemented over each tooth to protect them during the interim.

We will call you to schedule a second appointment once the dental lab has completed your bridge. At this appointment, the temporary crowns are removed and Dr. Toal will cement the permanent bridge into place.
