There are many habits in the world today that can alter your oral health, and if you participate in them, oftentimes your dentist won’t be too happy about it. So, if you want to make your dentist proud during your next appointment, our Center For Dental Rehabilitation team asks that you stay away from the following habits:

Using a hard-bristled toothbrush
Many people believe hard-bristled toothbrushes are more effective than soft-bristled toothbrushes, but that is simply not true. Hard-bristled toothbrushes tend to wear down the tooth enamel and irritate the gums, making them move away from the teeth and exposing the roots. The hard-bristled toothbrush may also cause some oral pain. So, please use a soft-bristled toothbrush.

Not flossing daily
Flossing is vital, which is why it’s strongly recommended to floss once a day. However, many people ignore this fact and only floss every once in awhile. If you are one of these people, we ask that you please remember to floss at least once a day so your teeth and gums can stay healthy and strong.

Not wearing a mouthguard
It’s best to protect your smile with a mouthguard while you are active. If you wear this appliance during sporting or recreational activities, the chances of you injuring your smile are greatly reduced. So, if you don’t want a broken smile, please wear a mouthguard.

Sharing utensils
If you share a spoon, fork, or even a toothbrush with someone, your smile could be in grave danger. Sharing utensils can easily spread bacteria and can destroy your smile by creating tooth decay.

Grinding teeth
Many people tend to grind their teeth at night or when they are stressed. If you are one of these people, we ask you to stop. Teeth grinding can easily wear and fracture your teeth.

Staying away from these habits will help you have the best oral health possible!
